System Overview

This Fortress kit is designed for customers who need dependable 120/240V power without stepping into a larger whole-home inverter platform.

During the day, the 6.4kW solar array can power loads while charging the eFlex MAX battery bank. Stored energy supplies the system when solar production falls, while generator or utility input can provide additional support when required. Dual high-voltage MPPT inputs give the Solo 6.5K flexibility for PV string design.

Ideal Applications
  • Off-Grid Cabins
  • Remote Homes
  • Rural Properties
  • Small Homesteads
  • Workshops
  • Barns & Outbuildings
  • Backup-Focused Applications

Choose Your Configuration

The Solo 6.5K can be used as a standalone off-grid platform or with an AC source available for additional support.

Option 1

Complete Off-Grid

Use solar and battery power as your primary energy source.

Solar supplies daytime loads and charges the batteries. After sunset, stored battery energy powers the property. A compatible generator can be connected for additional charging and load support during extended low-solar conditions.

Ideal For
  • Cabins, remote homes, workshops, and properties without utility service
Option 2

Solar & Battery with AC Support

Keep generator or utility power available when additional energy is needed.

The system can prioritize solar and stored energy while using an available AC source for charging or load support. Time-sharing functions can also schedule battery charge and discharge operation.

Ideal For
  • Properties that want solar-first operation with an additional AC power source available

Not Designed to Run Simultaneously

The Solo 6.5K can handle substantial residential loads, but its 6,500W continuous output means high-demand electric appliances should be managed rather than operated together.

Loads that should be managed carefully:
  • Electric Water Heaters
  • Electric Furnace Heat Strips
  • EV Chargers
  • Large Welders
  • Large Air Compressors
  • Multiple Large HVAC or Heating Loads at the Same Time

Actual performance depends on appliance wattage, starting surge, battery state of charge, solar production, and which loads operate at the same time.

Typical Daily Usage

A practical starting range for many applications is approximately
15–25kWh
Per Day

This is a general sizing range, not a guaranteed production or runtime figure. Solar production varies significantly by location, season, weather, array orientation, and system losses.

Typical applications include:
  • Off-Grid Cabins
  • Efficient Small Homes

Frequently Ask Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Can this system operate completely off-grid?
Yes. The Fortress Solo 6.5K is designed for off-grid applications and can use solar and battery power as the primary energy sources. Proper sizing is important because the solar array and battery bank must be matched to your electrical loads, daily energy use, location, and seasonal solar production.

Can I connect this system to the utility?
Yes. The Solo 6.5K supports grid input and can be used for self-consumption, backup, and other non-export applications. Utility-connected installations must follow the inverter manufacturer’s requirements along with applicable local utility, permitting, and electrical-code requirements.

Does this system work with a generator?
Yes. The Fortress Solo 6.5K supports generator input. A compatible generator can provide additional power and battery charging during extended periods of low solar production or unusually high energy use.

How much battery storage is included?
This configuration includes two Fortress eFlex MAX 5.4kWh batteries for approximately 10.8kWh of nominal battery storage. Two eFlex MAX batteries also meet Fortress Power’s minimum recommended battery quantity for one Solo 6.5K inverter.

Can I add more batteries in the future?
Yes. The eFlex MAX is a modular 48V battery platform, allowing additional storage to be added as your energy needs grow. Battery expansion should follow Fortress Power’s installation, communication, cabling, and system-design requirements.

Can I add more solar panels later?
Potentially. The Solo 6.5K has two MPPT channels and supports up to 10,000W of PV input. Any additional panels must keep the array within the inverter’s PV power, voltage, and current limits, including cold-weather open-circuit voltage calculations.

Can I expand the system with additional inverters?
Yes. Fortress Power supports paralleling up to six Solo 6.5K inverters for systems that need additional output capacity. Battery quantity, busbars, cabling, overcurrent protection, and system configuration must also be increased appropriately when additional inverters are added.

What appliances can this system power?
The Solo 6.5K provides 6,500W of continuous 120/240V split-phase output and up to 13,000VA of peak output. It can support many common household, cabin, workshop, and property loads, but actual performance depends on appliance wattage, starting surge, and which loads are operating at the same time. See the “What Can It Power?” section for typical examples.

How long will the batteries last during a power outage or overnight?
Battery runtime depends on how much electricity you are using. This kit includes approximately 10.8kWh of nominal storage, but actual runtime varies with battery state of charge, load level, inverter losses, temperature, operating settings, and whether solar is producing power at the same time.

Does this system provide both 120V and 240V power?
Yes. The Solo 6.5K provides 120/240V single/split-phase output, allowing it to support standard 120V circuits as well as compatible 240V loads within the inverter’s available output capacity.

What does the included Tigo rapid shutdown system do?
The included Tigo rapid shutdown equipment provides module-level rapid shutdown for the solar array. This allows PV conductors to be reduced to rapid-shutdown voltage levels when the system is activated and helps the array meet rapid-shutdown requirements where applicable.

Does this kit include solar panel racking?
No. Solar racking is site-specific and should be selected separately based on your roof type, ground-mount design, structure, panel layout, wind and snow requirements, and local code requirements.

Does this system include everything I need?
The kit includes the major solar, inverter, battery, PV wiring, connector, and rapid-shutdown components listed in the “What’s Included” section. Additional conduit, wire, breakers, disconnects, grounding equipment, racking, service equipment, and permitting-related components may be required for your specific installation.

Can I monitor the system remotely?
Yes, when the appropriate communications hardware and internet connection are available. The Solo 6.5K uses the SOLARMAN platform for homeowner monitoring and installer commissioning, allowing system operating information to be viewed remotely.

Can I install this system myself?
The kit is assembled around compatible major components to simplify system selection, but installation involves high-voltage DC, battery power, and 120/240V AC electrical work. You are responsible for following manufacturer instructions and complying with applicable electrical codes, permitting, inspection, and utility requirements.

Why should I purchase a turnkey system instead of selecting components individually?
This kit combines a compatible Fortress inverter and battery platform with a matched solar array, PV wiring, connectors, and Tigo rapid shutdown equipment. That reduces the number of major compatibility and sizing decisions required compared with building a system from unrelated individual components.

What if 10.8kWh of battery storage isn’t enough?
The Fortress platform is expandable. If your property needs longer overnight runtime or greater energy reserves, additional eFlex MAX battery capacity can be added, or you can select one of our larger Fortress storage configurations while keeping the same basic Solo 6.5K inverter platform.
